How to Reduce JPG File Size
Reduce JPG file size by adjusting dimensions, quality and format.
There are several ways to reduce a JPG file. The right combination depends on how the image will be used.
Reduce dimensions
If the image is much larger than the destination needs, resizing is often the first step.
Lower JPG quality gradually
Use a quality setting that preserves acceptable detail. Check the result visually rather than choosing the lowest possible number.
Convert from another source carefully
Avoid repeated JPG-to-JPG recompression when possible. Keep an original and create a final derivative.
Use Compress Image or Resize Image to create a smaller copy.
Start with dimensions
If the JPG is thousands of pixels wide but only needs to appear at a much smaller size, resizing can reduce file size substantially before you adjust JPEG quality.
