How to Reduce PNG File Size
Practical PNG compression and resizing guidance.
PNG is lossless, but PNG files can still become large, especially for photographs or high-resolution screenshots.
Check whether PNG is the right format
For a photograph, JPG or WebP may be much smaller. PNG is often a better fit for graphics, screenshots, text and images where lossless output matters.
Reduce dimensions
If a PNG is larger in pixel dimensions than necessary, resizing can reduce its size substantially.
Convert when appropriate
If the destination accepts JPG, converting a photographic PNG to JPG may reduce file size significantly.
Know when PNG is the problem
For photographic images, PNG may simply be the wrong output format if file size is the priority. If transparency is not needed, compare a suitable JPG or WebP export before spending time on aggressive PNG reduction.
